Ladies have been wondering how to jump start their day & fitness program. Spokane Adventure Boot Camp for Women is the answer! It’s not the traditional military boot camp with a lot of yelling and trampling through the mud. It is however, a challenging, energizing, & fun outdoor workout (we are indoors in the winter). Camps are held at 6:00 a.m., 9:00a.m., 6:00 p.m., and 6:30 p.m. The one-hour per day camp runs for four-weeks and women can choose the intensive five day a week Monday-Friday program, or a four or three-day per week program. The camps are owned by Danna Snow of the Adventure Fitness Studio and operated by her staff of qualified, energetic Certified Personal Trainers.
Snow says, “Women will choose Spokane Adventure Boot Camp because it is different from the typical weekly exercise classes offered in gyms. They can also expect great results such as a 3-5% reduction in body fat, 5-12 pound weight loss, 1-3 inch reduction in the midsection and a 100% increase in confidence. ”
This program is an exciting exercise program designed to burn fat, increase strength, improve tone and increase stamina. The class is done as an obstacle course or modified circuit. Examples of movements participants might do in a camp are as follows: skipping, push-ups, variations of crunches, weight lifting (small hand weights and body weight), short distance hiking, running, and much more. Any exercise can be modified to replace movements some people are not able to do (high impact-low impact). The camp is geared to offer the benefits of having a personal trainer in an environment of camaraderie with others who share similar goals. The accountability of a group helps the campers challenge themselves more than they would if they were working out on their own. Each woman will work at her own level and all levels of fitness are welcome. Adventure Boot Camp for Women is currently offering camps located on the south hill and north side in Spokane. To register for the next camp visit www.adventurefitnessstudio.com

Wardrobes for Women Collects Style and Growth
Is your closet exploding with designer labels that would better be used by up and coming professionals in your community? Last October hundreds of Spokane women donated their professional clothing to the 4th annual Wardrobes for Women, a career ware sale benefiting the Inland Northwest Health Service (INHS) Foundation, which supports a variety of local non-profits. At the event, donated clothing is sold for a fraction of the retail price to local women who, despite working hard in a variety of professional capacities, struggle to afford rising retail prices. With your help Wardrobes for Women’s 5th year will be the biggest, boldest and most beautiful yet. This is a wonderful opportunity for local businesswomen to donate their gently used clothing to a good cause and be a part of an inspiring grassroots movement created by women for women.
Following last year’s enthusiastic event, NW Women magazine approached the INHS Foundation in order to collaborate on this year’s fundraiser. “The true beauty of Wardrobes for Women sparkles on NW Women’s pages because they are passionate about the women of this community, just like we are,” said INHS Foundation donor relations/special events coordinator, Kathy Dopson.
Wardrobes for Women 2008 will be held September 17-20 at Spokane Community College. However, you can become involved well before then with collection dates for donations for the event being held at the NW Women magazine office on April 14-18. An additional collection will be held at the same location on September 4-6.
Any items left over from the sale will be given to students in need of interview clothing, as well as other fantastic community organizations. Direct proceeds will benefit the INHS Foundation which supports St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, Northwest Medstar, Community Health Education and Resources (CHER), Northwest MedVan and Team St. Luke’s.
To make a donation, please contact the INHS Foundation at (509) 473-6099. For more information on this event and other supporting the INHS Foundation, visit www.inhs.org

Menopause The Musical, A Benefit For CenterStage, Brings Humor To “The Change” In Spokane
Since March 2001, the hysterical show Menopause The Musical has entertained, inspired and liberated women from coast to coast. Written and produced by Jeanie Linders, this show tackles “the change” in a humorous 90-minute production. The benefit for CenterStage will be performed by the highly talented traveling cast at the Bing Crosby Theatre, April 2nd-6th.
The show takes place in a department store where 4 women, who on the surface have nothing in common, meet. A chance encounter over a black lace bra quickly becomes a salute to “the change” with 25 re-lyricized songs to 60’s and 70’s hits. Songs, such as “Puff, My God I’m Draggin’,” and “Stayin’ Awake, Stayin’ Awake,” poke fun at hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, night sweats, eating binges and more! The message of Menopause The Musical is that menopause is a passage, but it doesn’t have to be a silent passage anymore! It is a stage in life that every woman experiences.
CenterStage is excited to bring this highly popular show to Spokane! Since its first performance in March of 2001, the show has entertained nearly 9 million women in over 100 cities across the country, as well as abroad!
For a limited time, CenterStage is offering discounted tickets at $34.50 if you purchase your ticket by March 8th. That’s $5.00 off the ticket price! Call now to reserve your seats before it is too late – this show has only 7 performances!

Women Helping Women Fund’s annual luncheon
Best selling author and journalist Jeannette Walls will be the guest speaker at the Women Helping Women Fund’s annual luncheon on May 5, 2008. Her memoir, The Glass Castle, was a New York Times bestseller more than 75 weeks, has sold more than 1.5 million copies, been translated into sixteen languages.
As revealed in her memoir, Jeannette and her three siblings were raised by nomadic parents; her father was an alcoholic and her mother was a schoolteacher-turned-painter. Driven by stubborn nonconformity, her parents roamed America, moving (or "doing the skedaddle," as her father put it) whenever money or food ran out. The family eventually settled in Welch, West Virginia, a small mining town. However, her father’s drinking and her mother’s depression grew worse, and the children became subject to the merciless taunting of the locals. According to Jeannette, she hid in the bathroom during school lunch breaks so nobody would notice she didn't have any lunch to eat. She would later rummage through the bins and eat whatever the other children had thrown away.
Women Helping Women is a non-profit organization serving Spokane County. In 1992, six Spokane women decided to do something for local women and children in need. They had two goals:
These six women believed their financial contributions could make a difference. They also believed that they, and others who joined them, would be enriched and empowered by the act of giving.
Their crusade to end the cycle of poverty took the form of a benefit luncheon. The first luncheon, which was held in 1993, was attended by 760 women and men and raised more $80,000 which was distributed to seven programs. Subsequent lunches have raised over $3 million dollars, and 256 programs have been served.
Funds raised at the luncheon are donated directly to programs managed by Spokane County non-profit agencies. The Women Helping Women fund supports programs, not agencies. For more information on the luncheon, grant application process or Women Helping Women Fund call (509)328-8285 or log on to www.whwfspokane.org .

1) Who are the Farm Chicks? We’re two stay-at-home moms who as children, dreamed of lives as mothers and wives. Our homes are our havens and we both spend a lot of time baking, creating, tidying and enjoying life with our families. We both feel so fortunate to be able to run our business from home, working whenever time allows.
2) What inspired the name and what how did you get started? We met at church and became fast friends. We both share a love for junking and thrifting. We often talked about how fun it would be to start a business based on that love of old things and our rural backgrounds. One day it occurred to us that it would be really amazing to have some sort of an event where we sold vintage goods and items we created, and the idea for our first sale was born. On a road trip a few weeks later, we were tossing around names for our business. We knew we wanted it to be Farm something and we thought of The Farm Chicks® like a play on words, chicks as in chickens, and it made us laugh. We thought that if it was fun to us, others would like it too.
3) What is the Farm Chick style? Farm Chick Style® is farmgirl meets Fifth Avenue. The soul of The Farm Chicks brand is at the intersection of old and new, nostalgic and now. It’s a retrospective tribute to women and “country life”, yet a celebration of today and tomorrow. It’s casual, yet together. Simple, yet cool. Subtle, yet unapologetic. Most of all, it’s fun.
4) What are your current projects? We just completed our first Farm Chicks book with Country Living, which will publish Spring of ’09. We’re gearing up for our first show after a year’s break, in a new location, the Fairgrounds in Spokane, June 7th and 8th, and The Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio in the fall. We’re always working on projects for our website and stories for Country Living Magazine.
5) Plans for the future? We’ve had a lot of success creating a handful of branded goods and we’ll be working on expanding our offerings and really building The Farm Chicks brand.
6) Any last thoughts you wish to share with our readers? We’re really excited about our show and all of the amazing women who will be selling their vintage and handmade goods there. It has really become a community of incredibly creative women and it’s very inspirational to see this group of women all together in one place. We’ll also have the editors from Country Living magazine making an appearance at the show.
